Forget the Gangnam Style, there’s a new catchy song in town and it’s going to stick in your head like nothing ever has before.
Just a minute long, Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen is simple in its visuals and even simpler in its lyrics. A man in a yellow snake-print shirt and leopard-print scarf stands in a white room reciting “I have a pen, I have an apple, uh, apple pen” and not much more, and repeats gestures which suggest mild sexual innuendo whilst looking seductively to camera. Yeah that’s pretty much it. Doesn’t take much to take the internet by storm.
Posted on Youtube, it became a massive hit when it reached 9Gag’s Facebook page and received 50 million views and a million shares. The success of PPAP has even surprised the creator of it, singer and comedian Pikotaro, and people are already parodying the short song.
Several parodies of Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen have already been released, including the one above.
The video can be watched below. We warn you though, you’ll be singing this for weeks to come. Good Luck.
With several billion hits, Gangnam Style’s official video on YouTube is still a few miles ahead in terms of views, but PPAP is sure to reach those numbers soon. We’ve already got a feeling that this song is going to intercept our dreams tonight…
