For those of you struggling to afford an iPad or a Macbook, don’t despair, as you can now purchase a book full of photos of Apple products, for the slightly more affordable price of $300.
The book – which follows the Apple branding by featuring a slick white cover – is packed with 450 artistic images of every Apple product under the sun and makes the perfect gift for someone who would much rather have an actual Apple product.
Designed by Apple in California, as it is pretentiously titled, is available in two sizes: $199 for a small 10.20″ x 12.75″ version, and $299 for a larger 13″ x 16.25″ edition, and every photo is shot by Andrew Zuckerman who is known for creating hyper-real images set against stark white backgrounds.
Chief designer Jony Ive hopes that the book will serve as a resource for design students, and in the foreword of the book, he writes:
While this is a design book, it is not about the design team, the creative process, or product development. It is an objective representation of our work that, ironically, describes who we are. It describes how we work, our values, our preoccupations, and our goals. We have always hoped to be defined by what we do rather than by what we say. We strive, with varying degrees of success, to define objects that appear effortless. Objects that appear so simple, coherent, and inevitable that there could be no rational alternative.
It’s basically just photos of Apple products. That’s what it is.
Apple has said that the book has been published in memory of Steve Jobs. Call us pessimistic, but we reckon there’s a bit more self-interest in the publication of this book than they would like to admit…
Still, maybe we’ll grab a copy when it hits the bargain bins.
