A girl who appears to be in her teens has been spotted walking around the streets of Rome, and many think that this could be in fact be the missing girl Maddy McCann.
Born in 2003, Madeleine McCann would now be thirteen years old; the mysterious girl could easily be the same age – however, she doesn’t appear to have Maddy’s distinctive blemish on her eye. There are rumours that the Italian police have in fact identified a similar mark to Maddy’s, but from a close-up photo, it doesn’t seem to be visible.
It has been said that the girl, who spends her days walking around Italy’s capital with matted hair and dressed in clothes that appear to be falling apart, politely declines any cash or assistance but doesn’t speak a word of Italian. She will respond to being called ‘Maria’ but she has apparently given various names to the police.
Pictures of the girl were posted on the website Missing Persons of America, and, apart from Madeleine McCann, people have all sorts of other theories over who she could be, including Amanda Adlai – a girl who went missing from Michigan in Dec. 2008 when she was abducted by her father, and Leela McDougall – a girl who vanished, along with her mother, cult leader father, and family friend, at the age of six.
Lorena Kollobani, who made Missing Persons of America aware of the girl, said:
“I don’t know if she is even American. I’ve seen her in Rome streets. She sleeps outside and has mental problems I think… But looks she hasn’t done this kind of life before because she doesn’t accept money and she is very careful and well behaved while eat (sic). I think she is a foreign student because she doesn’t know any Italian.”
The girl remains a mystery – we just hope she finds her family soon.
