The ‘man bun’ has taken off over the past couple of years and whether you’re into them or not, it has been causing an abnormally high number of men to begin losing their hair much earlier than it should.
Man buns cause traction alopecia, which is hair loss that is caused by pulling one’s hair in a particular direction. Dermatologist Sabra Sullivan, who works in Mississippi stated that this type of hair loss is becoming more and more common, and it is most likely due to the man bun craze.
“It’s really, really common. I see it probably once or twice a week. They’re putting traction on the hair follicles that the hair is not really meant to take. Traction alopecia in men is becoming more common” said Sara.
Not every man with a bun is destined to lose his locks, but many who are pulling their hair back too tight are causing undue stress on their hair follicles and they are losing their hair as a result.
“There are lots of men who wear man buns and don’t get traction alopecia. The idea is not to pull so tight. You don’t want to have to go for hair transplants later.” Sara added.
Well you better keep it under control lads, or you could be losing that hair of yours much quicker than you had originally expected.
